New loans, record during 2025/ Reached almost 4.5 billion euros, 17% of GDP. 664

New loans during December of the year just left behind have reached the level of 62.3 billion lek, which is also the highest monthly value recorded throughout the past year, but also throughout other years. However, it should be noted that December is characterized by a significant increase in lending to the economy. Compared to December 2024, an increase of almost 30% is noted. In total, throughout the past year, the banking sector has provided about 436.6 billion lek in loans, which translates into about 4.5 billion euros, or about 17.3% of Gross Domestic Product.

During the previous year, meanwhile, the total new loan was fixed at around 379.7 billion lek. So, the annual growth is fixed at around 15%. Among other things, the figure of 436.6 billion lek of new loans during 2025, turns out to be the highest since 2016, when it was fixed at around 253 billion lek, signal the official figures from the Bank of Albania, analyzed and processed by "Scan Intel".

Regarding lending to the private sector, a similar situation is observed, with new loans reaching the highest value of the year in December last year, close to around 46 billion lek and increasing by 32% compared to December of the previous year. In total, businesses received around 296 billion lek throughout 2025.

On the other hand, if we look at new loans for individuals, we notice that during December it reached a value of around 12.2 billion lek, which is the second highest value recorded for this month since December 2015, when the figures were also made public by the Bank of Albania.

Regarding new loans to individuals for home purchases, figures show that, during December last year, the figure was fixed at around 5.5 billion lek, both in euros and lek. In total, throughout last year, the banking sector has granted individuals around 64.4 billion lek in home purchase loans, or translated into foreign currency, around 664 million euros.
