Kukes challenges the demographic trend, records an increase in births/ In the

Albania's population has recorded a positive natural increase in the second quarter of 2025, with 48 more births than deaths nationally, a positive indicator, especially considering the figures for the country in recent years. The capital continues to be the country's demographic "engine", with a difference of 691 more births, followed by Durrës with 111 and Dibra with 49. Kukës has also maintained a positive pace with 44 more births than deaths.

At the same time, the number of deaths has decreased by 3.7% compared to the same period last year, with the strongest decrease in Gjirokastra, where almost 19% fewer deaths were recorded, and in Durrës by over 10%.

This development comes despite the fact that the number of births nationwide has decreased by 7.4%, with the most significant contractions in Korça by 26%, Vlora by 19.8% and Berat by 15.3%.

Only Kukës has defied the negative trend by recording an increase in births of 6.5%.
However, most regions still have a negative natural balance: Korça with 226 more deaths than births, Fier with 179 and Vlora with 132.

These figures show that the country's demographic challenge continues, with population concentration in some limited areas and the gradual emptying of others.
