Flights in Albania "beat" Europe / In two months, about 1.3 million

Albania has seen a significant increase in the number of passengers in air transport, as a result of the development of the tourism sector in recent years. According to official data from the “Tirana International Airport”, there has been a significant increase in the number of passengers, in seat capacity and in load factors. During the first two months of the current year, a total of about 1.3 million passengers were registered by air, with an increase of 11%. For the month of February alone, the figures speak of about 632 thousand passengers.

On the other hand, if we analyze commercial flight data from the European Statistical Agency, we see that compared to February 2024, Albania has recorded a 0.5% increase in the number of flights, estimated at 3,965 flights.

How is the situation in the region and Europe? "Scan Intel" has analyzed the annual report published by Eurostat to see which country has recorded the largest increase in flights in February of this year, compared to a year ago.

Bosnia and Herzegovina recorded the highest annual increase in flights in Europe, followed by Malta. Among the countries in the region, Serbia recorded a 6.7% increase in commercial flights.

Unlike these countries, Montenegro and North Macedonia have recorded a decline in this regard, by 0.9% and 5.9%, respectively.

But, Albania significantly leads the growth compared to the pre-pandemic period.

Analyzing Eurostat data on flights since 2019, Albania turns out to be the country with the highest growth. From 2019 to 2025, the number of flights in Albania has increased by 137.9%, if we refer to the second month of the year.

Other countries in the region have also followed a positive trend. Bosnia and Herzegovina ranks third with a 39.1% increase, while Serbia holds fourth place with a 27.2% increase. North Macedonia has recorded a more moderate increase of 6%, ranking 12th in Europe. Meanwhile, Montenegro has recorded a negative balance, with a 7% decrease in the number of flights in this period.
