Durrës-Rrogozhinë train, tender for construction opens - Works include rehabilitation of 34 km of existing line and 5 stations

The Albanian Railways has opened the tender for the construction of the Durrës – Rrogozhinë railway line, part of Corridor VIII. The procedure has been published on the official European Union platform for public procurement, as the EU has allocated a grant of 60.5 million euros for this infrastructure work. The remaining part of the financing includes 2 loans of 30 million euros from the European Investment Bank and the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development, but this tender phase does not include electrification, so the estimated value for this phase is 90 million euros.
Referring to the tender details, the works will include the design and reconstruction of approximately 34 km of the existing line, including the reconstruction of bridges, the construction of pedestrian overpasses and underpasses, the modernization of level crossings and the reconstruction of the 380 m tunnel along the segment.
The project envisages the deployment of advanced technology systems, as well as telecommunications subsystems that comply with European Union standards. In addition, five railway stations will be reconstructed and parallel access roads will be built or reconstructed, accompanied by special measures for the adaptation of the infrastructure to climate impacts.
According to the published procedure, the tender is being conducted in the form of an open international procedure with two envelopes, while the deadline for submitting bids is June 10. Meanwhile, it is estimated that the duration of the works will be 48 months from the signing of the contract.
The rehabilitated line will enable train travel at speeds of up to 120 km/h.
