“Made in Europe” draft - EU aims for protection from China and the US

The British minister for EU relations has warned that the European Union's "Made in Europe" plan could impact supply chains by creating unnecessary trade barriers between London and some EU member states.
The reaction comes as the European Commission prepares to adopt a law next week, which implies that a minimum share of products supported by public money in strategic sectors - such as wind and solar energy - be produced within the continent.
"My concern is that if very strict preferential requirements are achieved, you risk negatively influencing our deeply integrated supply chains, thereby creating barriers to UK-EU trade relations, with very high cost consequences as well," he said. He argued that Britain and the EU face the same challenge of stimulating and increasing competitiveness and productivity.
Six years after its official exit from the EU (Brexit), the United Kingdom - under the leadership of Prime Minister Keir Starmer, is working to improve diplomatic and economic ties with the European bloc, which is also its largest trading partner.
Starmer's political strategies appear to be aimed at further alignment with the EU's single market, which allows goods, services, capital and people to move freely across member states.
The draft "Made in Europe" plan defines the EU as the European Economic Area, which includes the 27 member states plus Iceland, Liechtenstein and Norway, but not Britain. However, parliamentarians have been open to adding "other trusted partners" in the future.
