Tirana-Durrës, new lanes open this month - Kamza turn-Rinas overpass axis, Noni: We expect traffic improvement

The new lanes of the Tirana - Durrës highway, in the segment that starts after the Kamza turn and ends at the Rinas overpass, are expected to be opened for vehicle traffic within January. Everything was announced by the Head of Contract Management at the Albanian Road Authority, Gëzim Noni, who was invited to the "Inside News" show on TV SCAN.
"Both contracts are expected to be opened for free circulation of vehicles very soon, despite the fact that one of them has a deadline of May of this year, which has just begun, and the other has a deadline of September of this year. But, they will be open for circulation much earlier. Of course, by completing the rest of the works, which are not related to traffic. I do not want to raise people's expectations, as they are sensitive to this, but we claim that this will happen within the month we have. Of course, it will depend a lot on the weather because cold weather does not favor the last layer of asphalt that remains because, being of a relatively small thickness, it is sensitive to temperatures and humidity, if any," said Noni.
Noni also spoke about the third phase of the works, which includes the construction of the junction connecting the Laknas road to the expanded highway, an area characterized by high industrial and urban development.
"Currently, as we speak, the third phase of this segment has also entered into implementation, which includes part of the works that should have been included in the first two and the continuation to the Limuthi bridge, which goes further than the first two lots. The third contract was signed during the last quarter of 2025, so it is in its early stages, but we hope that within this year we will have concrete results from it," said Noni.
Meanwhile, the opening to traffic of the segment from the Kamza turn to the Rinas overpass is expected to bring an improvement in traffic, which is extremely problematic in this area.
"We expect a lot in this direction because it is the part that is the main exit of Tirana towards the north and northwest. Its exit corresponds to the Rinas branch, corresponds to the connection of the Thumanë - Kashar highway, a very important axis recently put into circulation, the continuation to Durrës and here a traffic division is made, which comes out of Tirana, which branches in at least three directions", - said Noni.
Upon completion, the highway will have 8 lanes in total, 4 in each direction, while the permitted speed will range from 90 -140 km per hour.
