New agricultural insurance scheme - Deputy Minister of Agriculture, Guri: Guarantees economic sustainability

The recent floods in the country have caused considerable damage to farmers and livestock keepers, becoming an annual phenomenon that is billed to the state budget. To provide a long-term solution to this problem, the Ministry of Agriculture has prepared a first draft for a mandatory insurance scheme in agriculture.
In an interview for SCAN TV, Deputy Minister Fatmir Guri emphasizes that during this year the draft law will be published for public consultation.
"Building a long-term approach is a priority and work is underway to draft and pass a law on agricultural insurance this year. It is an instrument for economic sustainability, but on the other hand it integrates all stakeholders."
Regarding the recent floods, the Deputy Minister indicates that municipalities are leading the process of identifying damages on the ground and the methodology for supporting affected families will soon be determined.
"We have made our experts available to the municipalities to carry out the damage assessment process, but it is the municipalities' duty to lead the process. The methodology will be determined once a complete damage assessment has been made. The most affected areas are Shkodër, Lezhë, Kurbin and Durrës."
The government has earmarked an amount of 5 million euros for municipalities in the form of an unconditional transfer, which will go towards compensating citizens affected by the floods.
