Albanians "curb" home banking payments - What happened to our digital

The path towards reducing cash payments is not easy, and this is also shown by the increasing and decreasing figures of transactions carried out on bank applications or websites.

According to the latest data from the Bank of Albania, the number of transactions suffered a significant decline in November. That month, about 10.3% fewer banking operations were carried out from home compared to November 2024.

On the other hand, there was a slight decrease of 10.7% in the amount of payments or transfers made through home banking. This means that a smaller number of payments or transfers via the internet also translated into smaller amounts during the month of November.

However, if we make a comparison of January-November 2025, we understand that banking transactions worth 2.4 billion lek were carried out, 2.2% more than in January-November 2024.

The services offered through home banking vary by bank. However, most of them offer a basic level of online services. They can be divided into two main categories, transactional and non-transactional functions. Transactional functions include credit card payments or loan installment repayments, transfers between personal accounts, transfers to any account, to any bank inside and outside Albania, payments of telephone bills, OSHEE and UKT, etc.

Meanwhile, non-transactional functions include checking balances and account movements, periodic payment orders, debit and credit card balances, consumer and home loans (i.e. outstanding balances, payment dates, installment amounts), details of your term deposit or opening a new deposit.
