Digital Albania, closer to Europe - Vienna Institute: Leader in the region for electronic public services

An assessment comes from the Vienna Institute for International Economic Studies Austria and Think Europe Slovenia, within the framework of the "Converge2EU" initiative, which monitors the progress of Western Balkan countries towards European Union standards.
According to the report, Albania leads the region in the use of online public services. Our country is the only one in the Western Balkans, above the EU average for this indicator. Meanwhile, other countries in the region remain significantly below, in some cases even moving away from the convergence process. This result confirms that digitalization is one of Albania's strongest points in the process of approaching EU standards.
In the regional ranking, Albania is followed by Serbia, Kosovo, Montenegro, North Macedonia and Bosnia and Herzegovina.
The report highlights that, while some countries in the region are facing challenges and even a slowdown in the convergence process, Albania has managed to consolidate an efficient model of digital public administration, which significantly brings citizens closer to institutions and increases transparency in the provision of services.
The document also highlights the visible transformation of the Albanian public administration, facilitating citizens' access to online services, as well as increasing efficiency and quality in their provision.
With over 3.38 million citizens registered so far, e-Albania is consolidating itself as the main digital gateway to public services. The 24/7 electronic services are offering fast solutions, significantly facilitating citizens and businesses' access to the state administration. This high usage rate shows the increasing trust of citizens in online services and significantly reduces the need for physical counters.
