Prime Minister Edi Rama was at the construction site of the "Edith Durham" School, which is being built according to all European standards and conditions. This school consists of 33 classrooms, a large number of laboratories, libraries, gyms and multifunctional halls.
According to the Prime Minister, work is progressing at a rapid pace, with the aim of the school being ready for all students on September 15. Meanwhile, the Deputy Mayor of Tirana, Anuela Ristani, stressed that the school's capacities have been increased, in order to avoid teaching in two shifts.
"Edith Durham School, one of the proudest schools in the capital, opened in 1945. The 2003 reconstruction, since then it has not been touched. The addition, because there was a lot of demand, the capacity of the students here has been very large. What we are doing is that everything is being rebuilt, from the ground floor that will be functional for technical services, up to 3 levels, where the capacity of the classes is doubled, for the same number of students, but the second shift is completely avoided. This school also functioned as a reserve for the entire reconstruction of Emin Duraku nearby. We will have an open and closed gym. Although the number of students will not increase, everyone will be on one shift. The number of laboratories is doubled, there is a laboratory for each branch, a laboratory for foreign languages, physics, biology, chemistry. There are two multifunctional halls for school activities, there is an entrance for people with disabilities, on the first level. Even the entrance to the gym and "The first-level multifunctional hall for the community. We also have a community school program where we do courses for children, but there may also be courses for adults and other activities in addition to the gym. There are very good standards from the width of the corridors to the lighting of the classrooms. We also have heating and cooling, unlike all other schools. There are 3 emergency exits for children to exit in case of emergency. There will be a special hall for teachers, there will also be space for a library," said Ristani.
