How much do we pay for insurance per year? Xprimm: With an average of 104 euros, Albanians rank last in the region for spending

Albanians are the people who spend the least on life, car or property insurance compared to all other peoples of Central and Eastern Europe. Data from the latest Xprimm report shows that an Albanian pays an average of 104 euros per year for insurance.
Kosovo ranks higher than Albania with 108 euros in insurance expenses, North Macedonia with 161 euros per capita, Bosnia and Herzegovina with 174 euros, Montenegro with around 234 euros, while there is no data for Serbia. For years now, Albanians have remained very little aware of the importance of insurance, and consequently financially unprotected if a disaster occurs in their lives. Not even serious events such as the 2019 earthquake, which brought loss of human lives and considerable material damage, brought reflection, which means that we are a people who forget quickly and continue to reach out to the state, relatives or various donors when faced with a disaster.
We only get insurance when we are forced to, as is the case with mandatory auto insurance, while other voluntary insurance is perceived more as a “financial burden.” This may also be influenced by the insufficient income of many Albanian families.
However, despite the fact that the insurance culture in Albania is the most backward in the region, the country has improved compared to itself from year to year. Thus, from 92 euros, which was the average expense of an Albanian in 2024, in 2025 it reached 104 euros.
What about the level of insurance penetration in the economy?
Here too, the insurance market occupies a very small share of the economy. Insurance accounts for only 1% of the Albanian economy, less than in any other country in the region. Kosovo ranks higher again with 1.6%, North Macedonia almost 1.8%, Montenegro also, while Bosnia and Herzegovina with 2.2%.
