How many new businesses were opened in Albania? - Retail trade leads, progressive growth in the last 4 years
The positive performance of the Albanian economy during this past year has also been reflected in the undertaking of new private initiatives by citizens. Official data from the National Business Center shows that during the period January-December 2024, 17,500 businesses were registered with distribution throughout the country, up from 16,835 registered the previous year, with an increase of 655 newly opened businesses.
As for the sectors in which they are distributed, the highest number of registrations is in the category "Wholesale and retail trade; repair of motor vehicles and motorcycles" with 4,865 registrations or 27.8%, followed by the accommodation and food service sector with 15.6%, then administrative and support services with 7.8%; construction with 7.7%; professional, scientific and technical activities with 7.1%, transport and storage with 5.7%, etc.
While the lowest number of registrations is in the categories "Activities of international organizations and bodies" and "Activities of households as employers; activities of production of immutable goods and services of households for own use" with 1 registration each.
If we analyze the period 2019 - 2024, the number of registrations was highest during 2022 with 17,899 registrations, while the lowest number of registrations was in 2020, this was also influenced by the COVID-19 pandemic where a number of activities, especially those of services, were closed and the rest had a significant decrease.
From 2019 to 2024, there is a 9.82% increase in the number of new business registrations.
