Self-producers of electricity increase - Total number reaches 2415, led by private and family consumers
The number of consumers who self-produce electricity increased by 21.67% in 2024, compared to the previous year. According to official data, last year, the Distribution System Operator approved the applications of 887 customers, bringing the number of those who have chosen to invest in renewable sources to produce energy for personal use to 2,415. The total installed capacity of self-producers reached 216,823 mW.
Meanwhile, divided by type of client, private individuals lead with 1,645 customers, followed by families with 705 customers. The data also shows that there are 51 state institutions such as municipalities, ministries or educational institutions that have installed solar panels for energy generation, as well as 15 non-budgetary customers, including water utilities, polyclinics or health centers.
According to the Energy Regulatory Authority, these data reflect a diversification of consumer categories that are investing in renewable energy, supporting the country's commitment to increase energy production from renewable sources and to support the creation of a clean energy environment.
Also, according to ERE, this is an encouraging trend that shows that Albanians are increasingly committed to contributing to achieving sustainable development goals, helping not only to cover personal energy needs, but also to the stability of the country's energy system.
