Pensions increase, government grants 5 thousand lek as summer bonus, 777 thousand beneficiaries
About 777 thousand pensioners will receive a bonus of 5 thousand lek. The decision was approved by the government this Tuesday and the cost in the budget is foreseen at 3.7 billion lek. Also, from July 1, pensions will be indexed by 2.7%.
"We decided to grant a bonus to pensioners, it will be a summer bonus worth 5,000 lek. There are over 777,000 pensioners who will benefit from this bonus," said Minister Delina Ibrahimaj, after the government meeting. According to her, this happened due to the increase in income above expectations, also influenced by high prices, it was decided to grant a summer bonus for the first time.
Meanwhile, in a post on social media, Prime Minister Edi Rama wrote that "The June Normative Act that just passed the government is a meaningful reflection of a country where the economy is growing and enables another bonus for pensioners; a meaningful increase in support for people with disabilities, children with special abilities, autism, etc., as well as their caregivers. Rama also announced that "In the coming days, we will explain each of the measures, but the transition to the pensioner bonus and all additional income from the increase in the price of oil remains significant."
The government says that by July it will have the first draft of the new pension scheme, which is being implemented with assistance from the World Bank, ready, and by September the final reform will be ready.
