Rama: Moving cables to underground infrastructure will increase urban standards
Prime Minister Edi Rama presented the initiative for the development of underground infrastructure for the installation of overhead cables, calling it an important step for improving the urban landscape and increasing standards in territorial administration.
During the event, Rama emphasized that the project aims to gradually eliminate overhead cables and improvised structures that negatively impact the aesthetics of cities, while noting the importance of cooperation between central institutions and local governments for its implementation.
According to the Prime Minister, the initiative, coordinated by the Ministry of Local Government, the Ministry of Infrastructure and Energy, the Electronic and Postal Communications Authority (AKEP) and municipalities, will bring more order, coordination and quality to urban development, in line with European Union standards.
Rama stated that all possibilities now exist to clean cities from old aerial cable networks, emphasizing that a large part of them are no longer functional.
According to him, the inventory conducted has shown that most of these cables have remained unused and continue to be present only as a result of lack of maintenance and attention over the years.
