Why do Albanians buy used clothes? - Imports of second-hand clothing increased in 2024
Cheaper prices, quality and original brands, or clothing different from what is sold in markets or stores, are the reasons why girls and women mainly buy used clothes.
"They are cheaper, but they are also of better quality, to be honest. They are of very good quality, they last, we buy them sometimes when we need them ," said a customer.
But for traders, the year 2024 has been more of a flurry, while the first days of 2025 have been empty for them.
"Why do people choose used clothes, for quality or price?

"They choose used clothes because they don't have the economy to buy new ones. They have small salaries and small pensions and come here to buy old ones. They have quality because they are original, they are not Chinese market clothes," emphasized the other trader.
Comparing with Instat data, the year 2024 has a significant increase in terms of used clothing. According to the data, in December 2023, about 350 million kg of used clothing were imported. While, in December 2024, the import of this category has marked an increase of about 450 million kilograms.
