Deadline for fines and late payment interest ends - Taxes: Other relief measures

June 30 was the deadline for taxpayers seeking to benefit from the most favorable measures provided for in the law on the forgiveness of unpaid tax liabilities. Entities with tax liabilities incurred during the period 2015-2019 had the opportunity to pay in a single installment 50% of the principal liability and benefit from the forgiveness of the remaining principal. In addition, the law also provided for the full forgiveness of fines and late payment interest related to these liabilities.

With the expiration of the June 30 deadline, taxpayers who do not make the payment within this date can no longer benefit from the 50% forgiveness of the principal obligation. Yesterday was also the last day for submitting undeclared tax returns for the periods until December 31, 2024. Subjects who submitted their returns within the deadline could benefit from the forgiveness of fines imposed for late declaration, according to the conditions set by law.

However, the conditional forgiveness process is not completely closed. Taxpayers still have the opportunity to benefit until December 31, 2026, from forgiveness of 25% of the principal liability, if they pay the remaining portion of the liability and fulfill the legal obligations.

The Tax Administration has asked entities to verify their obligations and the category they fall into, as benefiting from the amnesty depends on the period in which the obligation was created, its type, and compliance with the established deadlines.
