Wetland Park, investments in Lake Shkodra - Contract signed, aiming to increase the tourist offer of natural areas in the north
The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development has announced the signing of a contract worth 731 thousand euros for the improvement of the landscape and connecting infrastructure for the Wetland Park at the entrance to Lake Shkodra, with the aim of increasing the tourist offer of natural areas in the northern region.
The works will be carried out by the company SMO UNION, while the tender was opened in June last year and the contracting authority is the Albanian Development Fund.
According to the EBRD, the area where the project will be located is very sparsely populated, with the natural part occupying the largest percentage. The Wetland Park will provide recreational functions for citizens such as a walking and resting area with views of the wetlands and sports facilities.
Also, according to the bank, this park has great strategic importance for Shkodra because it is a pioneering climate-adapted project that will regulate flooding in that area.
The interventions to be carried out are part of the Infrastructure and Tourism Project in Albania, which is financed by the European Union in a total amount of 40 million euros, as well as by the complementary sovereign loan provided by the EBRD to the government of Albania.
