"Real estate" leads foreign investments / But, transportation and accommodation mark the highest annual growth
Official data from the Bank of Albania regarding foreign direct investments show that, “Real estate activities” have taken first place in terms of annual inflows into our country. This sector has attracted about 379.3 million euros of foreign direct investments during the past year, or about ¼ of the total of about 1.6 billion euros. This sector continues to remain in first place, with an increase of 17% in the span of one year.
As for the second place in the ranking, we see that there is a reconfiguration, with “Financial and insurance activities” having “kidnapped” the position of “Extractive industry”, and having attracted around 286.8 million euros of foreign investments in one year. Meanwhile, “Extractive industry” has attracted around 213 million euros in the form of foreign direct investments.
"Manufacturing industry" as well as electricity, gas and water supply close the top 5 places in the ranking of FDI flows by economic activity. In last place, meanwhile, is agriculture and other service activities.
Regarding annual changes by sector, two of them stand out: "Transport and storage", which recorded an annual increase in flows of 125%, and "Accommodation and food services", marking the largest annual increase among all other activities of 164.5%.
Meanwhile, on the other hand, there have also been activities that have declined, such as the extractive industry, wholesale and retail trade, administrative services, arts or education. The annual decline in FDI flows for this activity is recorded from 7.5% to 100%.
