OSSH aims for more secure energy supply - Reconstruction of the electrical network in Memaliaj, Tepelena and Përmet

The Regional Directorate of OSSH Gjirokastra has announced the procurement procedure for the reconstruction of the medium voltage network, transformer cabins and low voltage lines in some of the main feeders of the substations of Memaliaj, Tepelena, Përmet and Libohova. The estimated limit fund for this project is 149 million and 994 thousand lekë.
According to the document published by the Public Procurement Agency, the interventions will include the Ujësjelës, Maricaj, Miniera 1 and Miniera 2 feeders at the Memaliaj 110/6 kV substation, the Dragot and Kalaja feeders at the Tepelena 110/10 kV substation, as well as the Petran, Qyteti and SMT feeders at the Përmet 110/10 kV substation.
The purpose of the investment is to fully modernize the electricity distribution infrastructure, increase supply security, reduce technical losses and improve the quality of service for thousands of household subscribers, businesses, institutions, water utilities and industrial facilities.
The document emphasizes that it has been evidenced that the existing network in the areas where the works will be carried out is depreciated and no longer meets current energy consumption requirements. The power lines are outdated, the transformer cabins present technical problems, while defects and supply interruptions are frequent, especially during difficult weather conditions. The project foresees the reconstruction of the medium voltage network, the construction of new low voltage lines, the replacement of depreciated conductors, the construction and reconstruction of transformer cabins, as well as the installation of new poles according to the technical standards of the OSSH. In urban areas, new cable segments will also be built to increase the security of supply.
The investment covers an area of about 40 square kilometers and affects the municipalities of Tepelena, Memaliaj, Permet and Libohova, where over 34 thousand inhabitants live. According to the document, urban development, expansion of economic activities and growth of the tourism sector have led to an increase in demand for electricity, making it necessary to modernize the existing network.
Currently, the area is supplied by several main feeders that feed dozens of transformation cabins. Most of these cabins are considered depreciated, requiring reconstruction or complete replacement according to new technical standards.
According to the technical report, the interventions aim to significantly reduce technical losses in the network, eliminate illegal connections, improve voltage parameters and guarantee a more stable supply of electricity to consumers.
Also, the DSO aims to provide a more modern and efficient distribution network, with fewer defects, interruptions and energy losses, creating an infrastructure capable of meeting the growing needs of residents and the economic development of the area in the coming years.
