In Europe for pleasure, in Albania from trouble - Albanian pensioners, at work. The ratio is 3.6% higher than in Europe
Retirement is often understood as the moment when individuals leave the labor market, focusing more on personal activities and leisure. However, in Albania this phenomenon takes a different form, challenging the usual expectations.
According to the latest INSTAT data, crossed with those of Eurostat, Albania has a high rate of retirees who continue to remain active in the labor force.
In fact, about 16.6% of the Albanian population, or 1 in 6 retirees are still engaged in employment, a figure that positions Albania among the countries with the highest rate of retirees who continue to contribute to the labor market.
According to data from Eurostat, only 13% of pensioners in the EU continue to work after retirement. In other words, the rate of pensioners employed in Albania is about 3.6% higher than the average of this indicator in the countries of the European Union.
According to Eurostat, 36.6% of retirees who continue to work in Europe say that they do so for pleasure and the desire to remain productive, considering work as an opportunity to contribute to society and be engaged.
However, in Albania, most individuals over the age of 65 continue to work due to financial need, in order to cover daily expenses and cope with the economic challenges associated with high living costs.
