Montenegrins prefer Tirana airport - Around 53 thousand citizens from the

Around 53,000 passengers from Montenegro flew from Tirana Airport last year, Deutsche Welle reports. According to Montenegrin travel agencies, they often organize transportation for their clients to Mother Teresa Airport and vice versa. The services of Tirana Airport are also being used by many Montenegrin citizens living in different countries of the world.

This airport is about 140 kilometers from Podgorica and it takes about three hours to drive between these two destinations, while from Ulcinj, Tivat and other cities the journey takes significantly less. The road to Tirana airport has also been shortened with the construction of the Thumanë-Kashar highway, so now from Montenegro to the airport can be reached in 1 hour and 30 minutes.

Currently, Montenegro has two airports, in Podgorica and Tivat. But the insufficient number of flights, the poor choice of destinations and the expensive tickets are the reasons why citizens say they choose Tirana airport for flights. According to Deutsche Welle, from the two airports in Montenegro you can only fly to a few destinations, because with the increase in the tax at Podgorica airport, the low-cost companies Rynair and WizzAir have canceled some destinations, while from Tirana the choice is increasingly greater.

Montenegro needs to urgently review its priorities, invest in air connections and improve infrastructure to exploit its potential and remain competitive in the region. The president of the Montenegrin Employers' Association says that without a clear strategy and decisive steps, the country will continue to lag behind its neighbors, with long-term negative consequences for its economic development.

According to him, Montenegro is suffering from poor air access, which has a significant impact on the country's economy. Experts warn that improving Montenegro's tourism infrastructure is essential for the country's future economic progress, highlighting the need for major investments in the national airline and overall infrastructure.
