Business trade with the EU is made easier - New transit system. Reduced waiting

Albanian businesses will have more ease in trading with European Union countries, benefiting from reduced waiting times and bureaucracy.

Within the framework of the Western Balkans Trade and Transport Facilitation Project, financed by the World Bank, the DEMO version of the European Union Common Transit System (NCTS), Phase 5, was presented at Tirana Customs.

The New Computerised Transit System (NCTS) is an integrated platform used for the management and control of the transport of goods under the transit regime, at EU level.

This system aims to: increase the efficiency and speed of customs procedures; guarantee greater transparency in the movement of goods; improve security and border protection.

What specifically do businesses benefit from this project?

Efficiency and speed, as it significantly reduces the processing time of customs procedures, accelerating the movement of goods at the border.

Reducing the risk of fraud through electronic monitoring and real-time data exchange between authorities.

Improved security and control, as it guarantees accurate tracking of goods and prevents smuggling or undeclaration.

The year 2024 marked a record in terms of import declarations processed by the customs administration, which reached 444,530, compared to a decade ago, their number has doubled.

An important step in service to businesses and citizens has been made regarding the processing time of customs declarations during 2024. Compared to 2023, the processing time in the yellow channel has been reduced by 13 minutes and the processing time in the red channel has been reduced by 91 minutes.

The implementation of the Computerized Transit System (NCTS) Phase 5 represents an important step towards the full modernization of Albanian customs, while procedures are underway with the World Bank for the transition to an even more advanced version – Phase 6. The terms of reference have already been prepared and approved for this phase, enabling Albania to take another safe step towards European customs.
