International competition for the rehabilitation of “Aquapark Tirana” - More new sports and recreational spaces are targeted
The Municipality of Tirana has announced the opening of the tender for the design competition and related services for the rehabilitation of "Aquapark Tirana".
“Aquapark of Tirana” is located in the southern area of the city, near the dam of the Artificial Lake of Tirana. The aquadrome and public swimming pools of Tirana have always been an important part of the life of the capital, serving as a center for sports, cultural and recreational activities for the local community and visitors.
According to the document published by the Public Procurement Agency, in order to revive this precious space and adapt it to contemporary needs, an international competition is being organized for project ideas that will bring a new vision for the Tirana Aquadrome. The competition aims to create a multifunctional space that will serve a wide range of sports, cultural and recreational activities throughout the year.
Through the reconceptualization of the Tirana Aquadrome, it is sought to recover a valuable asset of the public life of the capital, which is closely related to nature, sports and leisure in general. The Tirana Aquadrome reconstruction project focuses above all on young people, through the creation of appropriate conditions for the development of their sports skills and the strengthening of a sense of community and social ties.
This project also represents a good opportunity to reconceptualize not only the architecture of the buildings but also that of the landscape and public space through innovative solutions, which favor flexibility in use beyond the defined function of the facility. Also, this competition aims to revitalize the space of the Aquadrom, creating an environment that enables a variety of activities and needs for visitors. The project will bring contemporary innovations to this complex, suitable for all seasons, making the Aquadrom a lively and important destination for the citizens of Tirana and other visitors.
Meanwhile, the competition process will be conducted in two phases, where the first phase will review the eligibility process, while the second phase will see the submission of design idea proposals. The jury will announce the winning team based on the selection of the best proposal.
