Koçiu in Shkodra: Investments in education and wage increases are transforming schools across the country

The transformation of the education system in Albania is continuing at a rapid pace, thanks to sustainable investments and reforms undertaken in this sector. This was emphasized during a conversation held at the “Ndre Mjeda” school in Shkodër, where Deputy Prime Minister Albana Koçiu was present, together with Minister of Education Mirela Kumbaro and the Mayor of Shkodër, Benet Beci.
During the meeting with the teaching staff, Koçiu praised the work and dedication of the teachers, while underlining that improving conditions in schools and creating contemporary European standards remains a priority for the government. She emphasized that investments in infrastructure, as well as innovative programs such as “Art and Craft”, are directly impacting the increase in the quality of teaching and the development of students’ practical skills.
One of the key points of discussion was the meritocratic system of selecting teachers through the "Teachers for Albania" platform, which according to Koçiu guarantees transparency and equal opportunities for all education professionals.
The Deputy Prime Minister also focused on the increase in salaries in education, describing it as one of the most important reforms, where the average salary of teachers has reached 950 euros, while the work experience evaluation system has also been strengthened.
Special attention was also paid to school security. Koçiu announced that the implementation of the “Smart City” project will begin in June, which envisages equipping schools with intelligent cameras to increase monitoring and security. In parallel, the security officer program will also be expanded, with the aim of reaching about 400 of them throughout the country.
According to her, these measures will create a safer and calmer environment for students, parents and teachers, positively impacting the quality of the educational process.
The Albanian government, Koçiu emphasized, will continue to support education through policies that guarantee sustainable development and long-term investments in this key sector.
