Internet cables will go underground, Rama warns of "Urban Renaissance 2.0"

The government has introduced an initiative for the systematization of electronic communication networks in cities, which envisages the gradual transition of internet cables and other services to underground infrastructure.
Prime Minister Edi Rama stated that the intervention aims to eliminate overhead cables placed in streets and neighborhoods, as well as improve the quality and appearance of public spaces.
According to him, the project will mark a new chapter for digital infrastructure and will be accompanied by measures to unify elements of urban space.
Rama also announced that during July, the national program "Urban Renaissance 2.0", designed in collaboration with local government units, will be presented.
The program is expected to include investments in water supply and sewage systems, green public transportation, and the creation of new parking capacities.
The plan also envisages the revitalization of old industrial areas, the development of museums that promote local identities, and the expansion of support for new enterprises and start-ups.
The Prime Minister emphasized that the program will not only rely on financing investments, but also on strengthening cooperation between municipalities, communities and businesses.
According to him, local government will need to be continuously engaged in implementing projects and increasing transparency and informing citizens.
The government considers "Urban Renaissance 2.0" part of the long-term objective "Albania 2030" and the country's preparation for membership in the European Union.
