“The Albanian Files”, Rama: Independent project with 60

Prime Minister Edi Rama has reacted to the debate created around the book "The Albanian Files", a publication that compiles projects, ideas and reflections of 60 international architects and studios that have worked in Albania over the last two decades.

In the "Flasim" podcast, Rama described the book as one of the most important publications of recent years in the field of architecture and urban development. According to him, the involvement of renowned international studios in projects implemented in the country has created opportunities for cooperation and professional development for young Albanian architects and urban planners.

The Prime Minister rejected criticism of the publication, stating that it is not a government-controlled project and that his contribution was limited to writing the foreword.

According to Rama, the book was conceived and curated by Anneke Abhelakh, while each of the authors had complete independence in selecting the projects, texts and published materials.

Part of the debate has centered on a text by architect Reinier de Graaf, a representative of the international studio OMA, founded by architect Rem Koolhaas. Rama argued that the text has an ironic and satirical character and should not be interpreted as a political statement or as a real call to him.

The Prime Minister added that the presence of critical or ironic materials in the book proves, in his opinion, the editorial autonomy of the authors. He stated that he had not seen the full content of the publication before publication.

"The Albanian Files" brings a summary of architectural and urban projects developed in Albania and the relationship between architecture, urban transformation and development policies.
