During the last months, various cases of bird flu and African swine fever have appeared.
But despite the fact that the Ministry of Agriculture has taken measures to isolate cases and control and monitor farms, the concern of citizens is how to protect themselves from the consumption of products that may be contaminated and how to orient themselves in their purchases?
In an interview for SCAN, veterinarian Rushan Vrapi emphasizes that the consumer should be careful and buy only certified products that have elements of traceability.
But how safe are the products that come out of poultry breeding complexes?
The Ministry of Agriculture is continuously monitoring the situation to keep it under control and has taken measures for the sale and trading of live poultry in open areas as well as the ban on meat imports from countries affected by these diseases.
The poultry breeding and egg production sector took a big hit in 2022 from the avian influenza disease, otherwise known as bird flu, where more than 250 thousand heads were culled and the establishments went almost to zero.
According to data from INSTAT, in 2023 the number of chickens in Albania is recorded at 4.8 million heads and the number of eggs at 894 million grains.
