''Natural disasters, risk management priority''/ Çako: Over 2700 fires in 2025, strengthening of the protection system continues

The National Civil Protection Agency continues to strengthen the protection system through the legal framework, capacity building, investments and expansion of international cooperation. The Director General of AKMC, Haki Çako, during the annual report to the Committee on Internal Affairs and Defense, emphasized that the priority is disaster risk management, the local regulatory framework and the digitalization of the civil emergency system.
"Throughout 2025, AKMC continued to fulfill its mission in full harmony with the 2025 Protection Directive, with a focus on developing, improving and strengthening the Civil Protection system in Albania," said Çako.
During 2025, 2,743 fire cases were recorded throughout the country, with around 62,000 hectares of area affected, where over 30,000 operational forces and more than 2,200 vehicles were engaged in firefighting operations, while two Air Force helicopters carried out over 120 missions.
In the field of investments, Çako announced that during 2025, 11 infrastructure projects, 42 projects for tools and equipment, as well as five projects for the rehabilitation of dams were financed, with funds aimed at increasing safety and preventing damage from natural disasters.
