Cyber attacks, 21 attempts in 3 months - Which sectors are most threatened? The financial sector, the least affected
In the first quarter of the year, transportation was the sector with the most cyberattack attempts. According to the National Cybersecurity Authority (AKSK), during the first quarter of 2025, a total of 21 cyberattack attempts were detected, which were identified and reported by the structures responsible for digital security.
The attempts have mainly affected the transport sector, with 9 cases specifically, followed by the banking sector with 6 attempts. In the “other” category, 4 cases have been reported, while the financial sector has been less affected, with 2 attempts during this period.
The high number of incidents in transport shows that the critical and important infrastructures of this sector are a high target for cyber attacks. In the transport sector, incidents are caused by attempts to interrupt service in critical and important information systems. These attempts to interrupt services in ICT systems signal a critical need to improve IT security. This key sector requires continuous attention to prevent malicious intrusions. Cyber attacks against transport systems can damage road, air, and maritime infrastructure, causing traffic disruptions and major impacts on the movement of people and goods.
On the other hand, in the banking sector, malicious actors are interested in stealing sensitive information, denial of service, damaging the image, and economic instability.
Meanwhile, other sectors such as energy, healthcare, finance, or water supply have had fewer attempts.
Overall, incidents in various sectors indicate an increased need to strengthen cybersecurity in critical or important systems. To address this challenge, even in previous annual reports, AKSK has emphasized the importance of investments in staff training, improving security infrastructures, and proactive monitoring of cyber risks. These actions are key to raising the level of cyber protection in various sectors, ensuring a safer environment at the national and international levels.
