Personal data, what are the obligations of businesses? - Dervishi: Take measures

Businesses have an obligation to implement the new law on the protection of personal data and to guarantee their customers that this data will not be misused. The American Chamber of Commerce in cooperation with the Commissioner for Personal Data Protection have organized a forum with businesses aimed at the most efficient implementation of the new law.

“The new law provides better protection for data subjects, defines more clearly the rights and obligations of each controller and processor, expands the rights of individuals over their data, the right not to be subject to automated decisions and the right to be forgotten, which is an innovation that obliges businesses and online platforms to delete data that is no longer necessary for the purpose for which it was collected. Businesses must take stronger measures to protect personal data against loss, unauthorized access or misuse.”

"We all need to remove that context of fear of fines and start becoming aware of what we need to prepare better in all our businesses, what we need to know better in order to prevent that process that we are all concerned about, and look at it from a positive perspective of how much the implementation of this law will be worth to our businesses."

The Commissioner for Personal Data Protection will offer training modules for businesses in order to properly fulfill the obligations arising from the new law, which is completely similar to EU legislation.
