Maritime transport remains the main pillar of trade exchanges, providing 75% of total goods moved. According to INSTAT data, maritime, air and rail transport routes enabled the circulation of around 10.3 million tons of goods last year.

After maritime transport, which accounts for the vast majority of trade, air transport has played an important role, providing around 2 million tons of goods.

On the other hand, the country's railway lines have transported a more limited volume, with only 542 thousand tons of goods, which constitute 6% of the total. Compared to 2023, only air and sea transport have increased, while the railway sector has suffered a slight decrease of about 3%.

The superiority of maritime transport is explained by several key factors, the most important of which are the low cost per unit of cargo and high transport capacity.

Large ships can carry thousands of containers on a single voyage, making this method more favorable for large volumes of international trade.

On the other hand, air transport is mainly used for high-value goods or those requiring rapid delivery, filling an important market segment.
