Bulqizë, communism returns as a tourist attraction - ADF finances 271 million lek for the Retro Theme Park
The Albanian Development Fund has announced the opening of the tender for the construction of the infrastructure of integrated models, the Retro Theme Park in Bulqiza. The estimated limit fund of this project is 271 million and 919 thousand lekë.
According to the document published by the Public Procurement Agency, the development strategy for this intervention aims to establish the "Retro Bulqizë" pole, which has as its initial focus the revitalization and giving life to degraded public assets and their transformation into a retro destination, reflecting the period before the 1990s, as a living museum and cultural and historical memory of the time period when the mining town began to be populated, in the service of work in the mining galleries.
The project aims to put degraded assets, which have served specific functions during socialist realism, to use, converting them into offering hotel experiences as well as providing services for the sale and tasting of local products.
The area in which the multifunctional project will be developed is located in the peripheral area of the Bulqizë Municipality. The second main building within the construction site has served as the vehicle and bus office for the northern region. Meanwhile, the existing buildings, such as the "former Officers' House", have functioned as such until 2009, after which they have been used for informal housing throughout the following years.
"Retro-Hotel", the former Officers' House and the 8 2-story apartments, aim to bring a unique experience as a product, through the realization of a retro hotel complex, with several buildings that offer accommodation and recreation of various forms with a communist-style interior treatment.
Referring to the document, for this purpose, it is intended to use all the potential of physical assets that make this retro development pole attractive and competitive, in service of tourism, agricultural and livestock products and those of the industrial tradition with chrome, copper, etc. products.
