Brussels, the Partnership Document with the European Union is signed
The Partnership Document with the European Union was signed today in Brussels, between the EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Kaja Kallas, with the Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs, Igli Hasani, and the Minister of Defense, Pirro Vëngu, in the presence of Prime Minister Edi Rama.
The High Representative of the EU for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Kaja Kallas: "Dear Edi, dear ministers! It is a special pleasure to hold this signing ceremony today. It is really great to start this Western Balkans summit with this signing ceremony.
We have already supported the armed forces of Albania directly and both of our sides want to do more, so this agreement shows that we will do more together.
It clearly shows investment in our common security. It shows that Albania will be part of all these important tables where we will discuss the security and defense of Europe. It also allows us to expand our cooperation, both in Europe and in the Western Balkans.
Also, Albania has made considerable progress in the membership process. I am happy that we will discuss this and further in today's meetings. So welcome and I look forward to our future cooperation.
Prime Minister Edi Rama: It is a long day and an important day for us, because we have the annual Summit with the European Union. Meanwhile, we woke up with a pleasant feeling that we have already opened another set of chapters. So it's a very good moment, but first of all, I want to take this opportunity to congratulate you on this appointment and tell you that we feel privileged because we've come a long way and you know what it means to you are born and raised in a dictatorship, then fight for freedom and then fight to build democracy and develop society.
This agreement is important because it is another sign that our bond is inseparable and that we must do our best to strengthen it every day.
I want to express my thanks to the European Union, to all those who, on behalf of the European Union, are working to push forward this agenda of the complete reunification of Europe. So, thank you and thank you to everyone and thank you to those who hosted us!
