Pensioner bonus, which categories benefit? - Map/ 72.8% of beneficiaries out of the total are elderly people in urban areas
Nearly 521,000 pensioners across the country will receive a year-end bonus of 10,000-15,000 lek, depending on the level of their pension, whether it is lower than 20,000 lek or higher.
But where will the bonus go and how is the pensioner map distributed across the country?
Referring to official data, what is noticeable is a high increase in the number of pensioners from year to year, where from 2023 to 2024, approximately 16,400 beneficiaries have been added to the scheme. Meanwhile, if we take into account the last 5 years, the increase compared to 2020 is recorded at 55,535 more pensioners.
The largest portion of beneficiaries are urban pensions, a figure that reached 630,142 at the end of last year, which also includes disability and family pensions.
What is noticeable is a very high progressive trend in the growth of urban pensions. If we compare it with 2020, where only 550,420 urban pensions were registered, the increase in 2024 is 79,722 more beneficiaries.
In this group, family pensions are around 44 thousand and have been in almost the same trend, disability pensions at 60,516 and have resulted in a decrease, while old-age pensions are registered at 525,421, increasing by 84,842 beneficiaries compared to 2020.
Figures show that Albania's population is aging rapidly and that the scheme is becoming more and more overwhelmed every day.
The highest number of them is concentrated in Tirana, Fier, Korça, Vlora, Durrës and Elbasan.
Regarding rural pensions, a completely opposite trend is observed. The number of rural pensioners has gradually decreased from 115,443 in 2020, to 91,256 beneficiaries in 2024, with a decrease that is estimated at 24,187 fewer beneficiaries in the scheme.
Of which 82,146 are old-age pensions, 5,410 disability pensions and 3,700 family pensions, all of which result in a decrease.
The highest number of old-age pensions is concentrated in Tirana, Fier, Elbasan, Vlora, Korça, Berat, Peshkopi.
In total, throughout Albania, there are over 607,000 elderly people in cities and villages who benefit from year-end bonuses, 66,000 people who benefit from disability pensions and around 47,900 family pensions.
