Online sports betting under stricter control - New standards, identification requirement for players

Online sports betting will not be possible unless you log in with your ID card. The Official Gazette has set out the technical standards for the operation of online sports betting in Albania. The decision aims to increase the security, transparency and control of this activity, by establishing clear rules for licensed operators.
The focus of this decision is on the technical requirements that online platforms must meet, including player identification and registration. Each player must register with full personal data, including identification document, address and relevant contacts, while identity verification is done via email or phone number. It also sets out detailed procedures for invoices and financial transactions, which must be recorded and monitored in real time by the relevant authorities. The new rules also require that each user be fully identified before accessing the platform, including age verification, to prevent access by minors.
According to the decision, each platform must guarantee high security, through the use of advanced protocols against cyberattacks. Particular importance is given to the protection of personal data and the prevention of illegal activities, including money laundering.
Another important element is the mandatory integration of platforms with state monitoring systems, enabling automatic reporting of all bets, winnings and payments. Any attempt to manipulate or hide data will be impossible due to advanced control mechanisms. In technical terms, the systems must guarantee uninterrupted operation 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, with secure infrastructure, backups and recovery plans in case of emergencies. The Gambling Supervisory Authority will have a key role in controlling and auditing these platforms.
