Energy highway and solar power plant - 33 million euro energy investments, financing for 3 new projects begins
About 33 million euros is the value of investments in the energy sector for the year 2025. According to the draft budget that is being discussed in the parliamentary committees, the investments in this sector are mostly with foreign financing, which includes loans of 25.5 million euros and grants of about 5 million euros. Meanwhile, the internal financing is estimated at around 2.5 million euros.
For the next year, there are 3 new projects for which funding is expected to start. The first project is the improvement of the electricity distribution network in Northern Albania after the 2019 earthquake and the installation of smart meters, with 560 million euros each. The next project for which funding is expected to start is the construction of the photovoltaic plant in Belsh, which will have an installed capacity of 50 mWp.
Meanwhile, the construction of the Valias substation is the project that will receive the most funds next year with around 5 million euros. Funding is provided for several other substations, such as the 110/20 kV underground substation in the center of Tirana and the reconstruction of 110 kV substations in the regions of Tirana and Durrës. As far as investments in the transmission system are concerned, the continuation of financing for the construction of the 400 kV line Albania - Macedonia, Fier - Elbasan - Qafë Thane is foreseen with 1.5 million euros and the energy efficiency program of the transmission sector with about 3 million euros.
In parallel, the financing of the rehabilitation of the dormitories of the University of Tirana will continue according to the principles of energy efficiency, with about 2.8 million euros.
