Is AI a necessity in tourism? - Ozuni: It will never replace the individual in this sector
Artificial Intelligence has touched almost all sectors, while Minister of Tourism Blendi Gonxhja, in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia at the UN Tourism General Assembly, during his speech spoke about the transformative role of Artificial Intelligence in global tourism, highlighting Albania's efforts to improve the visitor experience, extend the tourist season and diversify the tourism offer, including rural areas and local communities.
But in our country, is the use of artificial intelligence necessary for this sector?
Ferjolt Ozuni – Tourism expert:
"Artificial intelligence is an innovation that is already being used in all sectors, and it is trying to find its place in the tourism industry. With those so-called algorithms in the past, and today we can say that the tourism industry has been the main pioneer in implementing artificial intelligence developments in its entirety, because before we had those platforms that, based on the request for airline tickets, offered both hotels and rental cars, today it can also be used in many other aspects, one of which is the implementation of artificial intelligence in possible virtual tours, which is being used by many different museums in the world or tourist objectives that are difficult to reach by different people, such as underwater caves, submarine caves, the caves that we have and in Albania some that are not accessible to everyone, so that requires a good physical condition. But that will never be able to replace the individual, because the tourism industry is always based on the feelings and perception of both the one who provides the service and the one who receives the service."
In the 2026 draft budget, it is planned to invest around 270 million lek in tourism development over the next three years.
