Additional 40.7 million euros for the Tirana-Durres railway - The loan from the EBRD will be used for the 8 stations and the increase in material costs
The government will receive an additional 40.7 million euros in loans for the Tirana-Durra railway project and the new branch to Rinas airport. The loan agreement with the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development has arrived at the assembly, which has currently granted another loan for this project worth 36.87 million euros. Together with the new loan, the value of the loan to be received from the EBRD amounts to 77.57 million euros.
Meanwhile, according to the report that accompanies the draft law in the Assembly, the additional loan will serve for the construction of eight railway station buildings and the systemization of outdoor squares along the existing Durrës-Tirana line and the new line that will be built to the International Airport of Tirana, worth about 10.5 million euros. Also, the financing of the addition to the works contract, as a result of the indexation of the prices of construction materials, worth about 29 million euros, as well as the additional financing of the contract of the supervisor of works, worth 1.2 million euros, will be made, as consequence of the extension of the existing contract and the addition of the new contract for the construction of the station buildings. The document specifies that the project implementation deadline is August 31, 2025.
The initial project for the rehabilitation of this railway line, in addition to the EBRD loan, is co-financed by a grant from the Western Balkans Investment Framework, in the amount of 35.44 million euros, and an EBRD grant of 1.1 million euros. Meanwhile, the government has stated that it is looking for financing for its electrification, as well as the construction of the segment that will bring the train station back to Tirana.
