Energy prices rise in Kosovo - Regulatory Office approves average increase of

The Energy Regulatory Office in Kosovo has approved new variable tariffs, which are on average 16.1 percent higher than the current ones.

With 5 votes in favor and none against, the tariffs for the Use of the Transmission Network and Market, those for the Use of the Distribution Network and the tariffs for the Universal Service Provider were approved.

Board members stated that their approval is necessary to provide electricity.

"With five votes in favor, tariffs for universal consumers with universal service are approved, as defined in the criteria in primary legislation. The categories included are household consumers and small businesses, with a turnover of less than 10 million euros and less than 50 employees," the announcement states.

From May 1 to March 31, 2026, electricity bills will increase by an average of 16.1 percent.

The daytime tariff for those who use less than 800 kilowatts per month has increased from 7.79 cents to 9.05 cents per kilowatt. While the nighttime tariff for those who use less than 800 kilowatts per month has increased from 3.34 cents to 3.88 cents per kilowatt.

For kilowatts spent above the 800 kilowatt block tariff, the price has gone from 13.29 cents to 15.43 cents during the day, and from 6.27 to 7.28 cents at night.

A large number of citizens have expressed their opposition to the increase in the price of electricity, protesting against this decision. Meanwhile, about a week ago, the Minister of Economy, Artane Rizvanolli, proposed to the Energy Regulatory Office that for consumers who consume less than 800 kilowatts of electricity, there should be no price increase. According to the minister, only 5 percent of consumers exceed this threshold throughout the year, while 35 percent in several months of the year. Rizvanolli emphasized that losses in the network reach 15 percent, much more than the average rate in the European Union of 5-6 percent. But, recently, the Energy Regulatory Office has not taken these requests into account.
