Italy became Russia's top trading partner among EU countries in September 2024, overtaking Germany, which had led the ranking for six months. These data come from Eurostat.

As it results from the indicators mentioned by the analysts, trade between the Russian Federation and the Southern European country has increased by a quarter, to 768 million euros. The main contribution came from the import of Italian products, which increased by a third to 427.1 million euros. Russian exports to Italy increased by 17% to 340.9 million euros.

Germany fell to second place despite a 3.4% increase in trade turnover, reaching 720 million euros. France ranks third, with an increase of 29% (469 million euros). The top five also includes Hungary, with 451 million and the Netherlands with 437 million euros.

The biggest importers of Russian products in September, besides Italy, were Hungary (386.3 million) and Slovakia (353.4 million euros).

At the same time, Belgium has recorded the largest increase in this area, increasing the exchange of goods with Russia by 60 percent, to 419 million.

In September, fertilizers from Russia in European purchases reached 32.1 percent, the highest figure since March 2022. It is noted that the European Union as a whole reduced fertilizer imports by 14.5 percent in early autumn. While Russian supplies were reduced by only six percent, to 162.8 million euros.

Three months ago, it was reported that trade turnover between the Russian Federation and the EU fell to the lowest level since September 1999.
