Europe is "baking" from the heat - Temperatures are expected to become

The high temperatures that have hit Europe and the United Kingdom are another clear signal of the impact of climate change. Experts say the continent is entering a period of increasingly hot summers.

Many European countries broke temperature records for July and June, with some countries such as Spain, France, Italy and Germany recording temperatures above 42 degrees Celsius. In the United Kingdom, temperatures reached 38°C, breaking records that had stood for decades.

In addition to high daytime temperatures, nights are also getting warmer, with Europe the fastest-warming continent in the world. Melting ice and snow, reduced particulate pollution in the atmosphere, and rising sea temperatures are all contributing to this phenomenon.

But these high sea temperatures around Europe are also expected to strengthen future heat waves, as warm water retains heat longer and reduces the cooling effect of sea breezes.

Heat waves will continue to get stronger, experts say, unless greenhouse gas emissions are reduced. Each year will get hotter as average temperatures in Europe continue to rise.
