Russia opposes Trump on Venezuelan oil - Roszarubezhneft's assets in Venezuela "are property of the Russian state"

Oil assets that Russia is developing in Venezuela belong to Russia, which will continue to work there, Moscow said on Tuesday, following U.S. President Donald Trump's claims for control over the South American country. Russian firm Roszarubezhneft said all of the company's assets in Venezuela were Russian property and that it would abide by its commitments to international partners there, the TASS news agency reported.
All assets of Roszarubezhneft in Venezuela "are the property of the Russian state," in accordance with Venezuelan laws, international law and agreements between the two countries, a TASS statement said.
Trump has spoken openly about taking control of Venezuela's vast oil reserves, the largest in the world, in collaboration with American oil companies, following the arrest and imprisonment of Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro, whom he has described as a drug trafficking dictator in collaboration with Washington's enemies.
The US has also seized a Russian-flagged oil tanker bound for Venezuela after a weeks-long pursuit.
Russian President Vladimir Putin has not commented publicly on the US operation in Venezuela, but the Russian foreign ministry has urged Trump to release Maduro and called for dialogue. Russia has long maintained close ties with Venezuela, including energy cooperation, military ties and high-level political contacts, and Moscow has diplomatically supported Caracas for years.
