Poland, agreement with the US on air defense - Contract worth 2 billion dollars

Poland and the United States have signed a nearly $2 billion military deal to provide logistical and technical support for the Patriot air defense system purchased by Warsaw.

The signing took place at the military base in Sochaczew, in central Poland, in the presence of Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk and Defense Minister Wladyslaw Kosiniak-Kamysz.

Tusk said during the ceremony that "Poland is an exceptional example in today's difficult and complicated times, an example of good cooperation to protect the security of the country, NATO, the US and the whole of Europe". He warned that there can be no place for confrontation within the North Atlantic Treaty, between allies, because everyone has a common interest.

The defense minister said the signed agreement is worth nearly $2 billion. He added that the investment in air defense is the largest defense expenditure in the country.

"An attack by adversaries often costs much less than airspace defense. This is sometimes ten times more expensive, but it is a fundamental investment," he said.

Kosiniak-Kamysz added that the more money the European Union spends on armaments, the more NATO armies, including the Polish army, will be able to benefit.

"Building a strong Europe and strengthening NATO go hand in hand," the defense minister emphasized.
