Boeing, the big winner of the US-UK deal - The British company buys 13 billion

Boeing is one of the biggest beneficiaries of the deal between the United States and the United Kingdom. The company has secured an order worth about $13 billion from a British firm.

Boeing is reaping the early benefits of the Trump administration's trade deal with the United Kingdom. A major order from British Airways' parent company, International Airlines Group (IAG), just secured a decisive victory for the American aerospace giant after a turbulent year.

The order was officially announced a day after US Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick unveiled it in advance during a press event in the Oval Office, alongside the US-UK trade cadre.

While the jet order is not technically part of the trade deal signed by US and British officials, it was promoted by Lutnick, who described it as an example of “strong transatlantic trade.” The deal, although still under negotiation, includes the removal of tariffs on British steel and vehicles in exchange for expanded access to the UK market for US beef and ethanol exports.

The planes will largely replace aging equipment in British Airways' long-haul fleet, with deliveries scheduled between 2028 and 2033. Although the deal is worth $12.7 billion, International Airlines Group confirmed it received significant discounts, a common practice for such large orders. The company also secured options to buy 10 additional Boeing aircraft, providing flexibility as it looks to upgrade and expand its long-haul fleet.

The announcement came as part of the British firm's quarterly earnings report, which reported strong financial results. The company posted a profit of 198 million euros in the first quarter of 2025, up from 68 million euros a year earlier. Revenue also rose by almost 10% and official sources said that travel demand remains strong in all its markets. Shares in International Airlines Group rose by almost 3% on the London Stock Exchange after the news. The company also ordered 21 Airbus planes for other airlines, which is valued at about $8 billion and comes with the option to buy another 13 planes at a later date.
