VAT on fuel reduced from 18% to 10% - Decision of the Government of North Macedonia, in force for two weeks

The Government of North Macedonia has made a new decision, reducing the Value Added Tax (VAT) on fuel from 18% to 10%. According to the decision, gasoline prices are not expected to change, while the price of diesel is expected to increase by about three denars. The decision will enter into force from midnight on Monday and will be valid for a period of two weeks.
The government emphasized that this measure was taken with the aim of stabilizing the market and protecting consumers from further price increases.
"With this measure, we expect the price of gasoline to remain almost unchanged, while diesel will become more expensive by about 3 to 3.5 denars per liter," declared Prime Minister Hristijan Mickoski.
The head of government added that, "with this decision, we save citizens approximately 200 thousand euros per day, or somewhere around one and a half million euros per week, considering that the average consumption is somewhere around one million and six hundred thousand liters, of which one million and two hundred liters are diesel, approximately 75%, and the remaining four hundred thousand liters are gasoline with 95 and 98 octane."
Mickoski also highlighted the fact that since North Macedonia has the lowest fuel prices in the region, it is under pressure from neighboring countries. "Citizens from neighboring countries who come to refuel, therefore, and according to the information we have, consumption has increased by approximately 9%, compared to the usual days. About 150 thousand liters are additionally filled by citizens of neighboring countries, where the greatest pressure is in the border municipalities," said the Prime Minister of North Macedonia.
