Where are women paid less? The biggest differences appear in industry and finance. Construction favors them

Data on the gender wage gap by economic activity show that the difference between men's and women's wages in Albania has undergone a slight improvement during 2025. According to statistics, the average gender wage gap has decreased from 4.9% in 2024 to 4.6% in 2025, indicating a narrowing of the gap at the national level.
However, the breakdown by economic sector shows significant differences. The highest gap continues to be in the extractive and processing industries, energy, water supply and waste management sectors, where the gender pay gap reached 25.4% in 2025, although lower compared to 26.3% in 2024.
Another sector with significant differences is that of financial activities and insurance, where the gender pay gap was recorded at 17.8% in 2025, down from 18.4% the previous year. In public administration, defense, education and health, the gap was also 10.6%, marking a slight decrease from 2024.
In the trade, transport, accommodation and food services sector, the gender gap increased during 2025, going from 10.2% to 11.2%. Meanwhile, in information and communication, the gap decreased to 4.6%, from 5.4% a year earlier.
The construction sector remains a special case, as it recorded a negative gender gap. In 2025, this indicator was -5.9%, from -7.1% in 2024, which shows that in this activity, women's average salaries are higher than those of men.
Even in real estate activities, professional, scientific and administrative services, the gender wage gap increased during 2025. From -1% in 2024, the indicator decreased to -4%, indicating that in these activities women's average wages are higher than those of men.
Among the sectors with the lowest differences are agriculture, forestry and fishing with 3.1%, as well as artistic, entertainment and other services activities with only 0.6%.
