Expansion of the Tirana-Durrës highway - Physical construction works have reached 50% completion
Currently, the works of the second phase for the expansion of the Tirana-Durrës highway have progressed at a very good pace, with physical completion reaching 50%. According to the Albanian Road Authority, work has been carried out on the construction of asphalt layers on the left side (Tirana-Durrës direction) where the diversion of vehicle traffic has been made using the new expansion near the Rinas overpass, with the aim of continuing the works on the existing road axis.
The diversion is equipped with temporary signage in accordance with road safety standards. The Albanian Road Authority emphasizes that works will continue on the right side of this road segment with the construction of asphalt layers.
During an inspection of the works a little over a month ago, together with Prime Minister Edi Rama, the government's number two, also Minister of Infrastructure and Energy, Belinda Balluku, stated that the expansion of the Tirana-Durres highway in the first 5 km is intended to be completed in December of this year.
After the expansion of the expressway, the permitted speed for vehicle traffic will be 90-140 km/h. According to the project, this road will be added with 2 lanes in each direction of movement, bringing the total to 8 lanes.
