The new Viroi/Kumbaro bridge: Guarantees uninterrupted traffic throughout the year!
The Minister of Tourism and Environment, Mirela Kumbaro, shared photos today from the construction site of the new Viro bridge, which is being implemented by the Albanian Regional Traffic Authority, an investment with the support of the World Bank that will ensure uninterrupted and safe traffic throughout the year.
Kumbaro announced that the bridge will have 2 lanes and sidewalks for pedestrians on both sides, as part of the effort for a climate-sustainable transportation infrastructure.
The bridge is located on the SH4 axis towards the Kakavija border crossing with Greece and is essential for regional connectivity.
The bridge will be 33 meters long and 7 meters wide, with 2 lanes and pedestrian sidewalks on both sides. The new bridge will shorten travel times, improve safety during floods, and connect communities in southern Albania by creating more employment, education, healthcare, and access to markets.
According to the WB, in the absence of alternative routes when the bridge floods, the construction of the new bridge will ensure uninterrupted traffic throughout the year.
Over 200,000 drivers and 150,000 pedestrians will benefit as part of the effort for a climate-sustainable transport infrastructure.
