Rama with tourism businesses in Velipojë - "Development of tourism with the highest European standards"
Prime Minister, also chairman of the Socialist Party, Edi Rama, held a meeting with the tourism businesses of Velipoja.
He considered the Velipoja area as one of the most beautiful in Europe, adding that it should be developed with high European standards.
This is one of the most beautiful areas in Europe and deserves development with the highest European standards. The infrastructure in this area needs to be regulated and given the maximum for the best possible tourism. We need to start work on the Milot-Balldren axis and we also have the Milot-Muriqa axis in the process. We have had bureaucracy with the Montenegrin side for the bridge. We need to create modern hotel infrastructure. We will also implement the project to connect the Tale area with the coast, through internal roads. We will also build the Shëngjin Bypass.
The socialist leader also spoke about the informality of small accommodation structures, which are very widespread, but emphasized that they do not yet pose a threat to hotel structures.
A significant part here is Airbnb, those who rent out their homes. It's everywhere, it's extra money for the family that is not declared anywhere. We were aware but we didn't want to in this area yet because we don't yet have the hotel capacities that we can start tightening on the other side and even though Airbnb is widespread, it hasn't started to affect hotels. But we have already planned the intervention that we will start with calm, gentleness, experience has taught us that where it comes to taking the state's share from the private sector, a constructive and understanding approach is better than pressure that does more harm than brings income and that is why we have started with this agreement with all the hotels.
According to Rama, so far 1,000 hotel structures have requested to make an agreement with the government for the declaration of beds.
